History
A tangible piece of Belgian monetary history
The Belgian silver 1 franc of Leopold II is a tangible piece of monetary history. Struck between 1866 and 1909 during the reign of Belgium’s most controversial monarch, it served for years as everyday currency. It was officially demonetised in 1932, but its silver content and historical weight keep it valuable to this day.
With 5 grams of silver at 835‰ purity, each coin holds roughly 4.175 grams of fine silver. Some years were struck in small numbers, which lifts the numismatic value above the plain metal value. We buy this coin based on the current silver price, taking condition and year into account.
