History
100 years of independence in gold
The gold 50 Pesos Centenario is one of the largest and most impressive gold investment coins in the world. The name refers to the centenary of Mexican independence (1821); the original production ran from 1921 to 1947.
The obverse shows the Ángel de la Independencia, the famous Angel of Independence that is also the symbol of Mexico City, with a laurel wreath (victory) and broken chains (freedom). In the background the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The reverse shows the Mexican eagle, based on an Aztec myth.
